Clean hydrogen and permanent CO₂ storage, from the same rock.

Ophiolites are slices of the Earth’s mantle that make hydrogen on their own and turn CO₂ into stone. Decahydron is building one business on both: supplying clean hydrogen to industry, and storing CO₂ permanently for the emitters who have to pay for every tonne they release.

Both markets are large, both are short of supply, and in both the price of doing nothing keeps rising.

Why now

Hydrogen
~97 Mt

Of hydrogen used worldwide each year, almost all of it made from natural gas and coal. Less than 1% is low-emission.

What grey hydrogen really costs

Carbon
1,200 Mt

Of CO₂ that must be captured and stored every year by 2030 to stay on a 1.5 °C path. About 64 Mt a year is stored today.

The storage gap

Price of emitting
Rising

In Europe, every tonne of CO₂ has a price, allowances shrink every year and free allocation for industry is being phased out. Emitters need somewhere to put their CO₂.

Three assets, at three stages

The exploration well site in Sharjah
Appraisal

Sharjah

United Arab Emirates · with SNOC and Weatherford

A 2010 exploration well already reaches the fractured mantle rock, and the gas logged while drilling points to hydrogen below a dense seal. Re-entering an existing well to measure the gas and test the flow costs a fraction of drilling a new one.

Serpentinite hills of Othrys, central Greece
Demonstration

Othrys · PITHOS

Central Greece

Europe’s first field demonstration of water-free CO₂ mineralisation. The CO₂ comes from Holcim’s HERACLES cement plant: a real emitter as the first client.

Ophiolite gorge in Fujairah
Study

Fujairah

United Arab Emirates · with FOIZ

The largest exposed ophiolite on Earth, next to the world’s fourth-largest bunkering port. Under an MOU with FOIZ, surface work comes first, then exploration wells with a CO₂ injection trial.

The projects in detail

Two revenue lines

For industrial off-takers

Hydrogen supply

Hydrogen from the ground, sold to refineries, ammonia and steel makers under long-term contracts. It competes with grey hydrogen, whose price carries the cost of gas and, increasingly, of carbon.

Hydrogen supply

For emitters

CO₂ storage as a service

Emitters pay per tonne stored. Mineralised CO₂ becomes rock: onshore, close to the plant, with nothing left to leak and no liability to carry for centuries. Independently reviewed by EY, at a fraction of the cost of offshore storage.

How storage works

The two meet in one process: injected CO₂ reacts with the rock and releases hydrogen as it turns to stone. Hydrogen from CO₂

What lowers the risk

Exploration technology built for ultramafic rock

The oil and gas toolkit was designed for sedimentary basins. We have developed our own technology to explore ultramafic rock: to find where hydrogen forms and collects, and where CO₂ can be stored, and to drill and test it.

Partners with skin in the game

Weatherford is a shareholder and our drilling contractor. SNOC, FOIZ, Holcim and HEREMA are partners on the ground.

We report what the rock measures

No resource claims ahead of the data: we publish what wells measure, not what they might produce. Our view of the industry

Know-how protected

Patent applications cover the processes behind both businesses.

Screened before we spend

Our AI platform screens every ultramafic belt on well data, seismic and the published literature before we commit capital.

Milestones

  1. Oct 2024

Partnership with Weatherford for natural hydrogen exploration.

  2. Nov 2025

Strategic investment from Weatherford. Collaboration with SNOC in Sharjah.

  3. Oct 2026

MOU with FOIZ for Fujairah. Patent applications filed.

The team

Decahydron is run by people who have drilled wells, injected CO₂ and financed energy projects, at BP, TotalEnergies and ADCO, on the Al Reyadah CO₂ injection project and through three IPOs.
